A Spark of Inspiration

Inspiration can be tough to find. Maybe that’s why inspiration sparks when we’re not looking for it. When we least expect it. Though this can be frustrating, this is also the beauty of inspiration. Inspiration stirs unexpected awe in our heart of something we perceive.

I like to think of inspiration as a tiny creature that sneaks up on you when you least expect it and turns on your lights. It has you realize, recognize, notice something you hadn’t seen before.

By doing so, the light cracks an awakening inside of you to do something. To take the hint of the inspi-creature and…. fly a kite, draw a picture, write a story…. do whatever inspires you. Let your creative juices flow…

Inspiration doesn’t hit just one person, it passes on and on like an awesome disease. Do you know what this means? Everyone can feel inspired. They can all feel an inspiration to do something!

The word itself comes from the Latin word inspirare, meaning “to breath into.”

But it wouldn’t happen unless they breathe into it. They pour their heart and soul into that thing that gives them joy. If God hadn’t inspirared the earth, we wouldn’t be here. There’s the spark and then you have to keep it going.

Nature never ceases to inspire me. It has a way of drawing you in and making you pause for a moment to behold the magnificence of God. The lovely things that catch your eye each moment is a great way to find inspiration from Him. To marvel at His handiwork and enjoy all of the creation made for His glory.  Something I’ve found that helps my flow of inspiration is to go on walks. I walk around my neighborhood on “quests of inspiration” and it feels amazing.

Music is one of my favorite ways to feel inspired. Especially classical. Music sets the mood and makes you either weep or laugh. It twists and turns our hearts, making us have a feeling of excitement and joy. Music is a universally known language and it can help you craft all sorts of things.

Dawn from Pride & Prejudice is a beautiful piece.

Art is another source of inspiration. Art takes your breath away and has you fixate your eyes on the creativity and beauty of a masterpiece. It has you ponder the colors, and the scene and gives you ideas for your craft. You need visuals. A great website to find art is Pinterest. I have a board solely for inspiration.

How I know I’ve found inspiration is when I feel my heart fill with awe at something. The cheerful twitters of a bird, the soft brush of the wind, the curves of the sloping hills all ignite a spark in me. My pen flows easily over my paper when I observe the intricate design of the Creator which the earth is filled with.

But you know what is the GREATEST source of inspiration? God’s word. There are so many powerful stories and captivating verses in the bible that can inspire you.

What’s really exciting is that scripture states that

“All Scripture is God-breathed…”

2 Timothy 3:16 NIV

And in some versions like KJV, it says…

“All scripture is given by the inspiration of God.”

2 Timothy 3:16 KJV

Isn’t that amazing? It says that the bible is given to us by the inspiration of God. I don’t know about you… but that thought excites me. Makes you want to open that book and meditate on his word, and let God’s inspiration, inspire YOU.

What are some things that inspire you?

**Hint: Nature, Music, Art and God’s word are great motivations for the inspi-creature to turn on your lights? DO IT. Paint that picture, write that story, fly that kite… people need to see what the inspiration that ultimately GOD gives has done in your life. Inspirare.

  4. This is a new and exciting thought; that you have to seek inspiration it’s not enough to just wait passively. Lately I am asking God to lower my expectations and heighten my awareness. Aunt Judy

  6. Thanks Abbi! Sometimes it’s hard to follow through on the inspiration we feel. Life gets in the way. But, what a creative God we have and he never runs dry with new ways to inspire.
