Hey, kindred spirits! I’m Abigail.
To paraphrase my life and passions in several paragraphs is an impossible feat. Those details would fill an Anna Karenina-sized tome! Yet, I will try my best to give you a significant page from that volume with all the significant details of who I am, what I enjoy, and my purpose for this blog.
I’m originally from Minnesota, but I’ve lived nearly all my life overseas (from Pakistan to Malaysia). I’m a child of the Most High, book aficionado (love the word), writer & poet, tea addict, proud Anglophile, and an admirer of beauty.
Though an introvert through and through, I love good, meaningful conversations. (: Especially when they’re about books. Although my reading life primarily reigns in the classics sphere, I’m always down for exploring other genres/stories (if my to-be-read list allows, that is).
I suffer from what some call “generational dysphoria” (a dissatisfaction with the present and a longing to live in another time period). An old soul at heart, I pine for the days of the past… whether that be dancing to 60s music or living in 19th century England. ‘Tis a sorrowful illness…
As an INFJ, enneagram 4w5, I’m constantly in pursuit of meaning. For this reason, art, books, knowledge – all the treasures of the soul – captivates me. I must add, I fancy cloudy, dreary, windy weather over sunny weather. Perhaps it’s because I’ve lived all my life in a tropical climate. Perhaps it’s because the mystery and melancholy of grey weather appeals to the Four in me. Or perhaps I’m a vampire.
When I’m not nose-deep in a classic or pounding out poems & ponderings, you can find me bowing out a melody on my violin, quoting Shakespeare to my bookshelf, or wandering through my garden in pursuit of beauty.
ABOUT THE BLOG
My desire for this blog is for it to be a haven of hope you can escape to – once a week – to find treasures that will calm your mind, nurture your heart, and fill your soul with beauty.
I believe that ALL the treasures of our soul have the power to renew our hope and enrich our minds with a deeper understanding of the world we inhabit.
It’s a lifelong aspiration to persuade everyone to read at least one piece of classic literature and enjoy it. So much depth can be gained from the classics, and it saddens me to see how often literature is disregarded as “a thing of the past”. I have a fascination with meaningful (even dark) stories that reveal something new about humanity and our world. From Great Expectations’ Pip to Wuthering Heights’ Heathcliff and Catherine, I have a peculiar fondness for conflicted characters. In my literary section, I will dive deep into the themes of literature and how they relate to society today. From Shakespeare to Austen, I hope to provide you with a collection of well-crafted novels created to influence our world.
Art & Beauty
Beauty is all around us. Art reveals to us many wonderful things about the world we live in… This is a section where I pour out thoughts & ponderings I have from pieces of art (be that films, music, literature, or paintings) and the rich (often hidden) beauty our world possesses.
Life is full of trials and treasures. And as humans, it can be hard for us to know how to respond to storms life brings… In this section, I cover how to respond to current issues in society, how to live well & cultivate a rich inner life, and how to face challenges with hope!
My Posting Schedule…
I release a new post on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Saturday of the month. And on the fourth, I send out a monthly newsletter ~ The Cardinal ~ filled with goodies to my subscribers… so make sure you’re signed up for that. (:
