7 Breezy Reads to Devour This Summer

Hey, lovelies! I hope your summer has been a blast so far! And if not. . . Summer’s got a couple of weeks to make up for that. (:

I’ve spent my summer days planning blog content, writing stories, gardening, penning calligraphy, exercising, and planning for the new school year! And, of course, we must not forget. . . READING! I feel like July’s the perfect month to crack open a new novel or squeeze in a series before the break ends.

And I’ve got several magnificent books that you can read to end your summer well!

100 Days of Sunlight

100 Days of Sunlight

When Tessa loses her sight for 100 days, she realizes that she’ll need a typist to keep up with her blog and poetry. That’s where Weston, an optimist with prosthetics and a determination to help Tessa, comes in. Waffles… polaroids… flowers… this book is filled with sunshine. The characters are sweet, layered, and precious. The themes are powerful, and it carries a meaningful message regarding perseverance and hope.

To Best The Boys

To Best the Boys by Mary Weber

Filled with strong friendships, mind puzzles, and suspense, To Best The Boys is the perfect escape from a long summer day. Disguised as a boy, Rhen Tellur enters the yearly scholarship program for young men seeking an education. Win, and she’ll obtain the schooling she’s always wanted and a route to find a cure to save her mother. Loose, and public humiliation (or worse) is cemented. Risking the chance of detection, Rhen sets foot in the — labyrinth. But she soon discovers that there’s more on the line than her reputation. . . her life.

The False Prince by Jennifer A. Nielsen

The False Prince

Sassy protagonists? Teetering kingdoms? Swordfights?! Yes, please! I have so much love for this book and all of its memorable characters. I gobbled up the trilogy and nearly cried when it ended*. All in all, this is a fantastically woven book with a terrific plot and a good deal of sass! 😏

*Nielsen has extended her trilogy and will be releasing the 4th book in October. EEEP!

The Girl Who Could See by Kara Swanson

The Girl Who Could See

This story centers around Fern, a young waitress with an “imaginary” friend. Throughout the novella, she struggles to find out whether the hallucinations she’s seeing are real and if something greater is impacting her world. Oh my stars, this book pulled me through so many emotions. If you want a fast-paced, marvel-like book–read this novella. And let’s take a moment to appreciate the sheer beauty of this cover. 😍

Porch Swing Girl (Tradewinds, #1) by Taylor Bennett

Porch Swing Girl

I need a ticket to Hawaii. Now. I breezed through this novel a summer ago and (to my surprise) enjoyed it. The characters are relatable, and Bennet skillfully covers topics like loss and heartache. The summery, tropical vibes made me feel like I was in Hawaii. So for those of you who enjoy a clean, contemporary romance, this might be your breath of fresh air.

The Mother-Daughter Book Club (The Mother-Daughter Book Club ...

The Mother-Daughter Book Club

I absolutely devoured The Mother-Daughter Book Club Series. With its fascinating cast of characters, life lessons, and book club rep, it was definitely a highlight of 2019. The girls were lovely and flawed, with unique voices and different struggles. It was so fun to watch them unite, tackle conflicts, and grow up. A beautiful series for girls of all ages! I can’t recommend it enough.

The Help

The Help

This is one of my current reads, and I’m loving it. Writing in 3 different POVs is difficult, to say the least. . . but Stockett nails it! Aibileen & Minny offer you a behind-the-scenes glimpse of life as a maid in the ’60s, with all of its torrents of troubles and drops of joy. Skeeter (I love the name!), on the other hand, offers an exclusive interview of the conflicts she must face as a young white woman advocating for social justice. If you enjoy historical fiction, give this novel a chance. And, afterward, maybe watch the movie. πŸ˜‰

*NOTE*: A BIG surprise will be coming your way in one week. . . so stay tuned. I know you’re going to love it. (;

What books are you reading this summer? Are any of these books on your to-be-read list? If not, which one(s) will you be adding?
