6 Quarantine Reads for All Ages

In this quarantine season, we’ve got a world of time on our hands. And. . . millions of ways to waste it.

We all need fresh hope and joy in our lives, and books provide us with just that. When you open a book, you open a door into a world waiting to be explored. Adventures flicker at your fingertips, and all you need to do is turn the page.

You'll Spend Way More Time On Facebook In The Library Than ...
Rapunzel was a pro at social distancing. (;

I have compiled a list of books for all ages, and I guarantee you’ll get lost in them. I hope they brighten your day and shed light on your life. ❤

And if reading isn’t your cup of tea, you can listen to these books on Audible. 😉

1. The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, C.S. Lewis

The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe: Book Cover on Behance

Need I say more? THIS BOOK remains one of my childhood favorites–the whole series for that matter. The Pevensie children face circumstances similar to our own. Locked in an English house with a war raging across the world, Lucy Pevensie is bored out of her mind. That is until she stumbles through a wardrobe and discovers. . . Narnia. Friendly fawns, nefarious creatures, a Christmasless world (not permanent!), and more fill this novel with joy! And we must not forget the bits of Turkish delight sprinkled on top.

2. The Hobbit, J.R.R. Tolkien

Amazon.com: The Hobbit (9780547928227): J. R. R. Tolkien: Books

J.R.R. Tolkien sure knew what he was doing when he crafted the fantasy world of Middle-earth. With its rich descriptions and intriguing ethnicities, it’s no wonder he and Lewis were friends. Bilbo Baggins is a homebody with a dislike for adventures and a habit of doing things he dislikes. His humor and good sense make him both a compelling and relatable protagonist. His banters with Gandalf and the dwarves are amusing and will cost you a few much-needed laughs, in this trying time. In addition, you can embark on this twisted adventure over hills and under mountains without even leaving your front door.

3. On the Edge of the Dark Sea of Darkness, Andrew Peterson

On the Edge of the Dark Sea of Darkness by Andrew Peterson

Following three children as they struggle to find the truth in a land shadowed by evil, this story brims with heart and hope. Book 1 of The Wingfeather Saga sets the stage for a rocky adventure, clouded with danger, and tinged with valor. The characters are perfectly layered, and the family relationship is raw, real, and sweet. The perfect book to stay up late reading, and the perfect series to devour during the lockdown. (I will be expanding more on this saga in future posts 😉

4. The Secret Garden, Frances Hodgson Burnett

The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett; illustrated by Troy ...

No one knows the trials of isolation better than Mary Lennox. Raised in India, Mary returns to England following the deaths of her parents. Her uncle, an aloof and private man, becomes her guardian. Clouded with mysteries and secrets, Mary finds life at Misselthwaite Manor strange. And a certain locked garden piques her curiosity. . . A wonderful read for those needing a breath of fresh air and a hidden garden to uncover.

5. The Trumpet of the Swan, E.B White

The Trumpet of the Swan: White, E. B, Marcellino, Fred ...

E.B. White, the author of Charlotte’s Web, seemed to be very fond of animals. He weaved his love for them into his stories, making us fall for his characters too. Featuring a dumb swan, a trumpet, and an endeavor to win a sweetheart. Filled with charming characters and bursting with humor, this is another childhood favorite of mine. I never knew swans loved watercress sandwiches till I read this book!

6. Mary Poppins, P. L. Travers

Mary Poppins: Travers, Dr. P. L., Shepard, Mary: 8601422211481 ...

We could all use a spoonful of sugar these days, now couldn’t we? 😉 Since the day Mary Poppins swooped into our presence, the world has never been the same. Her firm, yet sweet nature has utterly transformed our idea of Nannys. Unfurl your umbrella, put on your sister suffragette sash, grab your cup of tea, and get ready for a flight!

What about you? How are you surviving isolation? What books are you currently reading? Comment down below. ❤

Farewell!
